Another Lifeline Connecting the Sky and Ground Through Audio

Data communications are now the norm for communication between aircraft in the air and on the ground. However, voice communications, which allow real-time person-to-person communication when necessary, remain an important means of communication. This is the “Aviation Radio Telephone Service,” which connects pilots and airlines on the ground by radio. Avicom Japan currently provides this service at Kansai International Airport, supporting safe and comfortable flight operations.

Provides Voice Communications Between Pilots and Airlines Over VHF Radio Waves

The “Aviation Radio Telephone Service” is a voice communications service that connects pilots operating aircraft with airline dispatchers and other personnel using VHF radio waves. Transmissions from the ground are converted to AM (amplitude modulated) radio waves by the transmitter (transmitting station) and reach the aircraft. The AM radio waves transmitted from the aircraft are converted back to audio by the receiver (receiving station) and reach the terminal of the dispatcher or other person.

Avicom Japan’s “Aviation Radio Telephone Service” is mainly used for voice communications of aircraft departing and arriving at Kansai International Airport, enabling airline dispatchers to monitor aircraft operation status and provide on-board support as necessary. It is also used as a means of communication to complement the “Aviation Radio Data Communications Service (ACARS)” when quick communication is required due to weather or other reasons.
